Srinagar, Jun 16 (KNO): President of Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) and former minister, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, on Monday appealed to the Government of India to take urgent steps for the safe evacuation of Kashmiri students stranded in Iran, citing rising tensions and a war-like situation in the region. In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Hakeem Yaseen said that families of several students have contacted his office, expressing grave concern about the deteriorating geopolitical situation in Iran and the safety of their wards. “The government must act swiftly before the situation further spirals out of control. Special flights must be arranged without delay to bring our students home safely,” Hakeem said. He urged the Ministry of External Affairs to establish immediate contact with Indian nationals, especially students from Jammu and Kashmir, studying in various Iranian universities, and to provide them with all necessary support, including evacuation assistance and temporary accommodation near Indian embassies. Hakeem Yaseen emphasized that protecting Indian citizens abroad, particularly youth pursuing education in conflict zones, must be a top priority. “We cannot wait for another tragic headline. Preventive diplomacy and timely humanitarian intervention are crucial,” he added. He also expressed solidarity with the worried parents of the stranded students and assured that his party would continue to press the issue at every possible level until a resolution is achieved—(KNO)
